Week 3 Helping at Home
A surprising fact I have realized, students have difficulty tracing their hands. I have had to assist several students in tracing their hands as well as assist in cutting out the tracing of their hands. I am curious is this weakness due to Early Childhood Development becoming focused strongly on reading and phonemic skills?

Since I am a sixth grade teacher (who is also 5 feet tall!), I have wondered the same thing about the Early Childhood years. I am a former first grade teacher and never thought you could spend too much time teaching reading, but since moving to sixth grade, I have questioned that more than once. It's a Catch 22, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is.... the developmental process has been challenged by the emphasis on Reading and Math (preparing to the TESTS!) as they also have difficulty using scissors!
